Cucos Mexican Cafe was a Tex-Mex restaurant located on Highway 49. It opened in 1984.[1] and closed on August 1, 2015, due to slow business after the 2012 shooting.[2] Later the building was occupied by Izote, another Tex-Mex restaurant, then Riviera Maya, then Top 5ive Bar & Grill.

2012 Shooting

On April 2, 2012, Scott Tyner entered the restaurant with a gun and began firing. Five people were wounded. He then left the restaurant, and was arrested a short time later. He pleaded guilty to five counts of aggravated assault, and on November 25, 2014, he was sentenced to 20 years for each charge, with the first two sentences running consecutively, and the last three charges running concurrently.[3]
