On August 29, 2005, Hurricane Katrina passed over Hattiesburg. The storm caused significant damage. The old Hattiesburg High School building and the Beverly Drive-In were severely damaged, trees were uprooted at Oaklawn Cemetary, and Dolly Williamson's tombstone was knocked over and broken in half.
