Hattiesburg has two post offices. One is downtown, located at 115 West Pine Street. A second branch is on 40th Avenue.

Roy M. Wheat Post Office

On February 10, 1994, US House representative Gene Taylor introduced an act to name the post office building on 40th avenue after Roy M. Wheat, a marine from Mississippi who was killed in Vietnam in 1967 after throwing himself onto a landmine to save his fellow marines. The bill was signed by President Bill Clinton later that year on October 6, 1994, and the post office became known as the Roy M. Wheat Post Office.[1]
