Hillendale, off of South 28th Avenue, was the second residential section to develop in Hattiesburg and the first subdivision in the western section of Hattiesburg.[citation needed] The Hillendale Subdivision was completed in 1957.[citation needed]A gazebo stands at its entrance.

Development[edit]

Robert St. John can be quoted as saying, "The Hillendale subdivision of Hattiesburg, Mississippi, was being constructed as the babies boomed. It was filled with the low-rate mortgages of Depression-born parents and the tall pines native to my corner of the South. Hillendale stretched from Howlin' Wolf's Highway 49 on the east to Eisenhower's Interstate 59 on the west." in the book "Growing Up in Mississippi". [1]
