Parkway Heights United Methodist Church
Parkway Heights United Methodist Church is located at 2420 Hardy Street.
History[edit]
On February 20, 1949, a meeting was held for those interested in organizing a new Methodist church on the western edge of Hattiesburg, which at the time was west of 19th Avenue. Organizers decided that the first person to donate $100 would get to pick the name of the new church, and Mrs. D. P. Enzell picked the name "Parkway Heights." For the next few months the new church held services at Camp School. In May the church began meeting in a seven-room brick house on the church's property on the corner of 19th Avenue and Hardy Street where Hardy Street Mart is today. The church broke ground on a new building on February 22, 1953. A few months later, on September 27, the church held its first service in its new building at its current location. In January 1962 a new education building opened, and on September 17, 1978, the church held its first service in a new sanctuary.[1]
