Ad in William Carey College annual

Here is the text from an ad in the 1955 William Carey annual:

PHOENIX LAUNDRY
Service Since 1891 
Dyers and Cleaners
Hardy Street Dial 4-6205
Hattiesburg, Mississippi

So it apparently existed since 1891, but according to the 1898 Sanborn map it was not located at the corner of Main and Buschman yet. And obviously it still existed by 1955. --LarryM 11:48, 2 September 2013 (EDT)

Mentioned in 1966

A tiny story/advertisement in the June 17, 1966 issue of the Hattiesburg American (page 6) says this:

Mr. E. C. Gill, Hattiesburg, was the winner of the FREE FISHING CAR given away last week at Woodruff Ford Company . . . "The One That's Different!" Mr. Gill, an employee of Phoenix Laundry in Hattiesburg, is shown above receiving the keys to the 1957 (sic) Ford 4-Door Sedan from Mr. L. V. McNeal, the salesman who registered Mr. Gill. Woodruff Ford invites you to come by and drive one of the TOP OF THE LINE SPECIALS, regular $2900. Full Size Ford now selling for $2398 . . . a $500 SAVINGS! Our salesmen will be glad to help you at WOODRUFF FORD COMPANY, 1410 West Pine Street, Hattiesburg.

So Phoenix Laundry was probably still around in 1966, although I still wonder why they'd bother giving away a 10 year old car. I can't tell if it is indeed a 1957 car or actually a 1967 from the picture. I'm not sure how much I trust this source. --LarryM 14:40, 7 September 2013 (EDT)
