Chain Park is a city park sitting on 37 acres located between Bouie Street and the Leaf River. Former Hattiesburg mayor Bobby Chain donated the land to the city in 2000, and on July 28, 2009, the city finally broke ground. After the first phase of development was completed the park officially opened on May 21, 2010.[1][2]

Two more phases are planned. The second phase, scheduled to begin in June, will cost at least $650,000 and includes additional walkways, a parking lot, and pavilion. The third phase is expected to cost about $500,000 and includes an amphitheater and restrooms.[2]
