Extreme Makeover: Home Edition is a reality TV series where new homes are constructed or existing homes remodeled for deserving families.

On November 19, 2009, Hattiesburg officials announced that the show would be building a new home for a Hattiesburg family in December[1]. On November 23, 2009, volunteers gathered at the Lake Terrace Convention Center for a kick-off pep rally[2], and on December 3, 2009, the Extreme Makeover crew and volunteers knocked on the door of the Heathcock family at their South 18th Avenue home. The family spent the next week at Walt Disney World as demolition of the existing house began on December 5[3][4][5].

Despite heavy rain and even snowfall during the week of construction, AAA Homes of MS and hundreds of volunteers managed to complete the Mississippi Power Earthcents certified house before the deadline, and on December 10 the new house was revealed to the family. Christian Slater was a special guest during the week.[6]

The episode debuted on ABC (WLOX) on March 21, 2010, at 7:00 PM CDT. About 600 - 700 people, including the Heathcock family, attended a viewing party at the Lake Terrace Convention Center.[7]
