Transfer of the station[edit]

The station has been in the news a little bit lately. I was going to add this bit to the article, but since it has more to do with politics than the story of the station itself I didn't. I pasted it here "for the record."

On September 18, 2007, Mayor Johnny DuPree vetoed a measure by the City Council to transfer control of the facility to the Hattiesburg Convention Commission, and later that same day the Council overrode the veto in a 3-1 vote. Supporters of the measure said that it would save the city about $244,000 annually, while opponents said transferring the facility could be a breach of a contract with the Federal Transit Administration and cost the city $7.1 million to repay the grant it received to renovate the facility.[1][2]
