Reverts[edit]

Hey, I reverted your recent change to the Saenger Theatre article. The content was good, but the problem is it was copy/pasted directly from the Saenger Theater website. Technically that's plagerism, even though there was a citation. Here's a page at Wikipedia that explains it a bit more: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Copying_text_from_other_sources

You are more than welcome (strongly encouraged, in fact) to rewrite and paraphrase the text you added using your own words and add it to the article.

Your other recent change to create a redirect from "Sacred Heart Catholic School" to "Sacred Heart" was a good idea. I just made the redirect work in the opposite direction (I like using the full Sacred Heart Catholic School title for the article), but unfortunately the "Recent Changes" makes it seem like I outright deleted your change.

Please keep helping out! Your work is appreciated. --LarryM (talk) 12:55, 7 March 2024 (CST)

Thank you! Sorry for the plagarism! Thanks for fixing my mistakes! Sorry for the trouble! I am nto very good at citig sources, so maybe when I put the source, you could touch it up for me, please! Sorry fot the trobule again! - Johnbrid7173

Quick question for LarryM, how would I cite a sentence to s specific link? Another question is how would I emebed a picture into the article? Thanks.

This page is a pretty good references for citations. To sum it up, all you do is put your citation inside <ref></ref> tags, then make sure you have a <references /> tag at the bottom of the page.
This page explains everything about images. For external images (images that aren't hosted here) you can just put the url of the image in the page and it will show up, but you won't have other features like captions or thumbnails, which is why I usually prefer linking to external images instead of embedding them. If the image is hosted by the wiki then you do something like this: [[Image:Name of the image here.jpg]] to embed the raw image, or you can add a little more to it and create thumbnails and add captions. You can upload images to the wiki on this page: Special:Upload but remember that you should have permission to upload the image if you don't own the copyright (see Hattiesburg_Memory:Copyrights)
I think the Roberts Schoolhouse and McLeod house articles are pretty good examples of using citations and images. If you look at the source of the articles you should see how it works.

Ok Thank you very much! I hate how this site is almost dead so I'm working to get it back up more again, with more articles!!! I've also asked my dad who knows about Hattiesburg to comment too so look forward to that. Thanks for all you do - johnbrid7173

Hey, I was going to ask you something. I am editing the Turtle Creek Crossing page and was wondering if you consider places next to the shopping center like the former David's Bridal and LifeWay area? What about the smaller strip malls next to it where places like GameStop and Lane Bryant are? Finally, should I include places like Panda Express and Academy Sports a part of the shopping center? Thanks! -Johnbrid7173 3/27/25 8:53 AM

I think your suggestions are good. You can list everything near the shopping center, and if we need to move anything to a different article later then we can. Midtown Market is a good example of what that kind of page should look like. --LarryM (talk) 10:33, 27 March 2025 (CST)

Thanks! If you had any problems and/or think a business shouldn't belong in the category, don't be shy to remove it! --Johnbrid7173 (talk) 6:40, 27 March 2025 (CST)

Is there a joint account for the website to get into the Hattiesburg American archives on newspapers.com? I could imrove osme articles if I could get in?- Johnbrid7173 3/28/25 10:03

No, I don't have an account at newspapers.com at the moment.
Thanks for all your recent contributions, by the way. When you upload an image, be sure to update the description to say things like what's in the photo, who took the photo, when it was taken, and what license you want to release it under. There's a list of existing license tags here: Category:Image_copyright_tags. If you didn't take a picture yourself and it's copyrighted by someone else then use either Template:Copyrighted-Permission (if you have permission from whoever owns the copyright) or Template:Copyrighted-FairUse. If you dig through all the subcategories in Category:Images you should find plenty of examples. Thanks! --LarryM (talk) 11:33, 29 March 2025 (CST)

No problem! Ok, sounds good! I'll fix those pictures ASAP with the date and all that. -Johnbrid7173

You have been blocked (but please read)[edit]

I blocked your account today. It's not because you did anything wrong, but MS state law says minors can't create accounts on "social media" sites without parental consent. This site falls under the law's definition of a "social media" site. See Hattiesburg_Memory:HB1126 for more info.

Since you've been a fairly regular contributor, I'll give you the opportunity to provide parental consent and unblock your account. If you send an email to admin at hattiesburgmemory.org (change that to an actual email address) and include:

  • Your name
  • Your parent's name
  • A statement from your parent stating they give consent for you to have an account
  • Your parent's signature

then I'll unblock your account.

In the meantime, you can still edit the wiki, but you have to do it anonymously. Anonymous editing has been enabled.

Again, I didn't want to have to block your account, but the law requires it.
